Another busy weekend

This past weekend was out and about this fine city enjoying some of its many fine offerings of Drum and/or Bass.

Friday kicked off with a great event put together by the Soul In Motion crew at tangerine lounge. It featured international talent such as Zinc, Inter & Makato spinning. The event went off fabulously and I had a great time. Well done SIM crew!

Later that same weekend after a full offering of Turkey and wine at my mom's (great stuff mom!) I was off to the Opera House to check out the latest installment by Futuresound. They brought in Dj Hype to play to an all ages show. Tons of people inside. aside from the lineups to buy a drink everyone appeared to be having a great time.

Saturday was Nuit Blanche, the free contemporary art event held across Toronto. This year was crazy busy. Way more packed than last years event. After looking at some insane lineups to get to the exhibits we wanted to see it was off to see Calyx & Teebee @ Abstract #9. Hell a jam!

Going green? Go to hell.

Watching TV today and a TD Bank commercial came on that started preaching about how they have been friends to the environment since the begining and a graphic of the TD chair in a wooded area served to visually represent this(no shit). That's when I came to a sudden realization that stirred strong violent emotions in me. I'm sick to death of this "Green" trend towards EVERYTHING. I can understand having a concern in keeping our environment clean and wanting to protect nature and all that however I draw the line at companies like TD Bank telling me they have been Green Eco friendly tree huggers for sixteen years.

If you have been so eco-conscious for so long and are so damn proud of it then why is this the first time we've ever heard about it? Oh ya because you haven't its just the trendy thing to fuckin say!

I'm somewhat curious as to what TD even considers to be eco-friendly business practices? How does a bank protect our enviroment or protect us against global warming?. Ridiculous.

Maybe some of you might say "I FLICK OFF" to help stop global warming. This is the latest advertising campaign to try to reduce our power consumption and thus our emissions thus in turn supposedly helping reduce global warming(in reality doing nothing). I think to myself "well I dont buy it but maybe its true who knows? maybe if I were more environmentally conscious I would care. If I was a company like TD I would definitely care! look at that cmmercial!". Then as I think of possibly turning off the light that is always left on in my closet (to stop the monsters)to do my part and help save the planet I look south out of my apartment. What do I see? The TD towers light up like a Christmas tree at 10pm on a Sunday night and the huge TD logo hovering proudly above.

Cut this eco friendly trend riding shit, it only serves to make you look like a bunch of pompous asses .

The smell of death

Everyday I leave my apartment I walk down the hallyway to the elevator and when I come home I return down that same hallway.

Over the past few weeks I had been noticing an awful smell as I would pass the garbage chute. I mean a really foul disgusting smell.

Then I also started seeing newspapers piling up outside one apartment next to the garbage chute. "person must be on vacation" I would think to myself. "silly not to cancel the newspaper during your time away, robbers will know you're not home" I cautioned. "Garbage chute smells terrible" I would then think.

One day as I walked either to or from the elevator, I can not recall, the thought crossed my mind "hey maybe the smell is coming from that apartment, the person must have gone on vacation and had the fridge break or left chicken in the garbage or something"

The smell got so bad I would joke that someone must be rotting in there.

Saturday as I approached my building I heard a firetruck come blazing onto my street "don't come here" I sighed to myself, exhausted from work. Of course the fire truck stopped right outside my building as I arrived. I let the firemen in the building as I see an ambulance come ripping down the street. Being the good Samaritan I decided to wait to let them in the door as the super for the building seemed to be M.I.A. So after letting in the EMS people they enter the elevator with the stretcher and as it closes i hear them say "612".

"612? That's on my floor! hope there isn't a fire"

As I get off on the 6th floor I finally realize what is going on. The super and the fire department are breaking down the door to find the dead person who had been decaying in 612 for weeks(possibly months).

It's kind of strange looking back how painfully obvious it was. I just always assumed it was the garbage chute or rotting food as I walked by and by the time I would be on the ground floor every morning I would completely forget about the smell as I picked a song on my mp3 player.

Anyway.....

It's been a strange weekend.

R.I.P Lady in 612

P.S. I have no idea how she died.

Futureshop Extended Warranties

Future shop can eat my foot sweat!

I bought an ipod 60gig video from FS a little bit over a year ago; after spending 500$ on the mp3 player I decided to pickup the FS extended warranty that was being pushed on me by some poor sales rep who was clearly forced to pitch the plan without knowing a damn thing about it. An extra80$

Anyway to make a long story short I dropped it and broke the LCD screen.

"DONT WORRY I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY" I thought to myself. So i take it in, they send it off and a few days later i get a call informing me it will cost 280$ to repair my ipod. Also they would not fix any of the other problems with the ipod (not charging or being recognized by a computer) because there was "physical" damage.

So I look at the extended warranty policies online to find IPOD warrantys are absolute garbage. Essentially all the FS warranty covers is replacing the fucking battery or reinstalling the firmware(both of which any mammal with opposing thumbs can easily do themselves). Any "physical" damage voids the warranty. LOOOOOL!!!

The best part about the 2 year warranty for which I thought I had payed for was it was actually only 1 year. They sell you on just coming into any FS location and dropping off your nameless damaged goods and they will fix it. Turns out not if its currently under the manufacturers warranty then u have to deal with the company yourself because they are too lazy. So after the one year manufacturers warranty ran out I was safely under the FS warranty.

So anyway,if i want to repair my ipod (500$ + 80$ FS warranty) it will cost me a grand total of 280$ on top of the 580 at purchase. If i don't want to pay they have kindly volunteered to mail it back to my nearest FS location (broken).

FUCK YOU FUTURESHOP!

(Please do not point out as a responsible consumer it was my responsibility to read the fine print in the warranty agreement or that i should have had a 500$ piece of electronics in a protective case. My point is about the crappy warranty not my irresponsibility)
